Germany is pleased to welcome you and presents elegant big-city charm, small picture-postcard towns, a wealth of art & culture and a varied cuisine accompanied by fine wine and beer. The landscape is straight from the Brothers Grimm: fairy-tale castles, deep dark forests, fabled rivers…. The capital Berlin has history that encroaches on the present and a culture so now it's almost tomorrow. Also the other major cities are havens of fine art and modern living.
Located in the heart of Europe Germany shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional national borders in the North.
With its history of over 1000 years Germany plays a significant role in the political, cultural and economic life of Europe. The founding member of the European Union was for the first time formed in 843 as the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation. After many restructurings (unification in 1871, World War I and II, division after the end of the war) Germany has celebrated its reunification on 3rd October 1990.
